Mobile Media: YourFilm
YourFilm is a film group for young people between 11-21 years old. They make films, runs media events, and are commissioned to document events within the south-west region. They are supported by Create Studios’ Mobile Media and have access to the state-of-the-art equipment at Create Studios.
YourFilm recently secured funding from Media Box to work with four groups of young people across Swindon on the theme of OurTown, which will culminate in a celebratory exhibition in March 2008.
In an event in August 2007, youngsters learnt how to make films - and friends - at Mobile Media’s YourFilm. Twenty one young people made three short films, to be shown on ITV Local and entered into local film competition, Preloader.
This was YourFilm’s second free media event for young people in Swindon and across Wiltshire. The event ran for two days, at Create Studios, and was open to anyone between the ages of 11 and 21.
It was a totally free event, and participants had the chance to create their own film and be involved with every aspect along the way, including acting, shooting and editing. No experience was necessary, just an interest in digital arts and lots of enthusiasm!
Simon Olney, a YourFilm member said, “The people that were really shy at the beginning are now talking to everyone, it’s all coming together. It’s been brilliant the last 4-5 hours, editing the films and putting in the final touches. I can’t wait to see them all finished.”
