Moredon Pupils take to the screen to fight cyber bullying
Twelve Year 6 pupils from Moredon Primary School have joined forces with professional filmmakers to make a film as part of Anti-bullying week which ran from 19 to 23 November 2007.
Pupils and teachers from Moredon, supported by Mobile Media, are making the film to raise awareness of possible bullying through texting and the internet.
The project has been funded by Artsmad’s project Flux, which is a three year initiative, bringing arts education opportunities to young people in North Swindon.
The idea for the film came from Police Sergeant Andrew Carr, of the North Swindon Community Police team, who wanted a resource made by local children to support his teams’ on-going work with youngsters all over Swindon.
“We have an extensive programme of work, giving children information and support about how to deal with bullying. We wanted a film to raise awareness of bullying through new technologies. Having seen the work of Mobile Media in the past, we wanted to work with them to get the message across."
The 12 pupils worked to develop a script for the film with Director Gurchetan Singh, and writer Mike Akers, through workshops and role plays.
Fabulous day
Moredon’s Community Tutor Tracie McGrory said, “The children had a fabulous day scripting, and are really buzzing with all they have learnt.”
Shooting took place on location at Moredon School and in other locations around North Swindon, and will be premiered in December, before touring schools around Swindon over the next year.
